Overview

This course covers all the vital basics of Excel and is suitable for new and existing users who have not received any formal Excel training.

To attend this course you should be confident in using the mouse and familiar with the keyboard and basic operations such as: Open, Close and Save.

If you are new to computing it is advised that you attend the Word Introductory course before attending this course as many basic features that are the same on both programs are covered on the Word course.

Using help
Creating a new workbook
Saving, closing & opening a workbook
  Inputting & Editing Introducing the 3 vital mouse shapes
Selecting ranges
Working with sheets: deleting, moving, renaming
Typing in text & numbers
Typing in dates
Using AutoFill to produce text & numbers quickly
AutoComplete in a column
Inserting/deleting rows & columns
Changing columns widths & row heights
Editing/clearing cell contents
Undo and Redo
Cut, Copy and Paste, using Drag and Drop

  Building Formulae Adding up a column or row using AutoSum
Adding up a big area very quickly
Entering formulae: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
Reading and understanding formulae
Copying a formula
Carrying a numbering forward (linking cells)
Using brackets in formulae (order of calculation)
Using the $ in formulae (absolute & relative references)
Using Excels built in functions to include:
Average, Min, Max, Count, Counta
Using the Insert Function dialog box
Practicing building formulae (time available for this)
If time allows: Using SumIf, CountIf and IF

  Introducing Graphs Building a Graph Using the Wizard

Please note that there may not always be time to cover both lists and charts and the group will be given the opportunity to choose which of these they wish to cover.
