April 2005 - Outlook Out of Office Assistant (using Microsoft Exchange Server) |
If you are using Microsoft Exchange Server you may be familiar with using the Out of Office Assistant to automatically reply to your messages whilst you are on holiday. But you may not know that you can still do this if you are running Outlook without Exchange Server, although you will really need a Broadband connection for this to be successful. This month we remind you how to use the Out of Office Assistant in Exchange Server and in May we will be telling you how to do this without Exchange Server. |

Out of Office Assistant
Most corporate users of Microsoft Outlook are running Outlook using Exchange Server and it is very easy to setup the Out of Office Assistant to automatically reply to your messages whilst you are away. Please note that Outlook only replies once to each person who sends you a message during this period. |

Setting it up
To setup the Out of Office Assistant, load Outlook, go to the Tools menu and choose Out of Office Assistant, choose "I am currently out of the Office" from the top of the dialog box and then type the message you want to use in the text box below. Choose OK, close Outlook and have a good holiday!! |

When you return to the office..
You do not need to leave Outlook loaded whilst you are away as the Exchange Server will automatically reply to the messages you receive. When you return to the office and load Outlook for the first time it will remind you that the Out of Office Assistant is on and ask you if you wish to switch it off. Either choose "yes" at this point, or go back through the steps above to switch it off. Next month we will be showing how to do this for home and small business users of Outlook who are not running Exchange Server. |
