December 2002 Happy Christmas |

December is a month when we spend a lot of time addressing and posting our Christmas cards. Many of you contacted us last year to say how helpful your found December 2001's Hints & Tips when we explained how to type your addresses in Excel and use Word to print labels for your Christmas cards. It saves a lot of time, and if your followed last year's hints & tips you should really be reaping the benefits this year. A couple of your asked how you could make your labels look a bit more seasonal and the following suggestion for printing a Christmas Clipart picture on each label comes from Rosemary Siggers of Gravesend, Kent. Thank you Rosemary. |

Adding a picture to each label
Make your Christmas card labels look more seasonal by adding a clipart picture to each label. The best approach for this is to run the labels through the printer twice. The first time to print the picture and the second for the addresses. Try to use Avery labels as the measurements for these are already set-up in Word and the labels are designed to go through a printer more than once without curling or peeling. |

Choosing the label
Start by choosing a new blank label page. Go to the Tools menu and choose Envelopes and Labels, click the Labels tab at the top of the dialog box. If you have already used the labels feature the label you use should be displayed at the bottom right-hand side of the dialog box. i.e. Avery A4 and A5 sizes, L7160. To choose another label, click the Options button and make sure the Label Products list box says "Avery A4 and A5 sizes", choose your new Avery label and choose OK. Choose New Document and a blank label sheet will appear on your screen. |

Placing the picture
Click to place the cursor on the first label. Choose the Insert menu and then choose Picture and then Clipart. Find the picture you want in the Clipart Gallery and insert it into your first label. You may need to reduce the size of the picture by dragging on one of the picture's corner handles (small black box). Now copy the picture and then paste the picture on to each of your labels. To place the picture on the right of each label, select the entire sheet by choosing Select All from the Edit menu and then click the Align Right button which is just after the Centre button on the toolbar at the top of the screen. Now, run your label sheets through the printer and each label which have the picture printed on it. To print your addresses follow the instructions given in December 2001 Hints & Tips page.
If you have a time saving shortcut or a tip you would like to appear on this page please send it to us. |
