Help from Microsoft

Office 2000 and Office XP have Euro support built in and if you are using these packages you should be able to produce the Euro symbol €.

If you are using Office 97 or an earlier version of office you may need to download updated fonts from the Microsoft Web Site. Microsoft have an Euro Resource Centre which is extremely useful.

Excel 2000

Formatting numbers as Euro in Excel 2000, is the same as formatting numbers in any currency other than sterling.

Type the numbers out as normal and then select the numbers. From the Format menu choose Cells and then choose Numbers. Choose Currency from the available formats. Choose the Euro Symbol from the drop down list of available symbols. If you just wish to type the Euro symbol press the Alt Gr key and type 4.

Excel 97

Depending on the version of Windows you are using and fonts available you should be able to produce the Euro symbol with the following instructions. If you cannot produce the symbol you will have to download fonts from the Microsoft Euro Resource Centre.

To create one Euro symbol, press the Alt Gr key and type 4. If this doesn't work hold down the Alt key and type 0128 on the number pad. When you release the Alt key the Euro symbol should appear. If you want to be able to format numbers with the Euro symbol you will have to make a custom number format.

To create a custom number format, from the Format menu choose Cells and then choose Number. In the list of number formats on the left hand side first click on Currency and then click on Custom. In the currency formats in the middle of the dialog box click on the format you wish to use. The format you have chosen will appear in the text box at the top, under the heading Type. Click in the text box and delete the £ sign and hold down the Alt key and type 0128 on the number pad to create the Euro symbol. Choose OK. The format you have created will now be available in all sheets in the current workbook.

Word 97 and Word 2000
